Eddie Vedder singing 7th inning stretch at Cubs game Thursday

    Luis Gomez About Last Night

    8:52 p.m. CDT, July 22, 2014

This is the 7th inning stretch Cubs fans wait all season for.

Pearl Jam singer and die hard Cubs fan Eddie Vedder will throw out the first pitch and sing “Take Me Out to the Ball game” during Thursday’s Cubs-San Diego Padres game at Wrigley Field. Vedder – who attended Tuesday’s Cubs- Padres game at Wrigley Field -- typically sings the 7th inning stretch once per season.

Henry Kane, forward for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, will also throw out the first pitch Thursday after having won a pitching competition among his teammates, including American goalkeeper Brad Friedel, to determine who would get the honor. Tottenham faces the Fire in a friendly Saturday at Toyota Park.

Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald will be pulling double duty as he throws out the first pitch and sings the 7th inning stretch during Sunday’s Cubs-St. Louis Cardinals game at Wrigley. Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic will be on hand July 29 for the Cubs-Colorado Rockies game to throw out the first pitch while their ESPN colleague Colin Cowherd will be there to sing the 7th inning stretch. Fitz and the Tantrums will sing the 7th inning stretch July 31 (presumably better than Fitzgerald and Cowherd, but maybe not as passionately as Vedder) while in town to perform at Lollapalooza.

I'm not sure that I'll be able to give my attention to 6 1/2 innings of baseball. Any idea how long that might take? I'm hoping it tune in for the first pitch and then pop back in for the stretch.
