This takes the cake, a Facebook post claiming the Feds shut down cell towers and restricted air space over the Bundy ranch. "Bovine concentration camps." Now I've read it all. Wow. When do the black helicopters come?

I'll ask again, did you read the report you linked to and what evidence do you have that "Reid has been bought off?"

    Peace.

Is it really necessary to have a "Waco" style standoff with a guy that owes a million bucks in fees?

Great footage for an action movie. Maybe they'll sell some of the film and recoup the money spent.

Both sides are messed up- cattle don't belong in the desert and the money spent corralling said cattle is wasteful overkill. The term that comes to mind is "clusterfuck".

I like this quote, I think the BLM has flinched, but I believe it is not over.

edited to add, it works for tits too. if there's any ladies out there not happy with your chest size, have no fear, guns will make your tits bigger and you don't even need plastic surgery.

yeah occupy was cleared out no problem. they weren't armed zealots though, which makes a huge difference....

the feds did nothing in this case because they knew that the militia that had gathered was going to kill themselves some of the gubmint. plus, if the feds went in there and killed a bunch of these guys, it would just fuel the fire of these crazy folks and more episodes like this would happen. i think obama realzies that the only way to win in this situaion is not to fight.

Funny how nuclear devices were tested in that desert but it's the cattle that's killing the turtles.

Nuclear testing grounds were isolated areas, unsung, places I would not recommend visiting. Same with the bombing ranges. But do visit some of the more remote corners of that state- places relatively unharmed but cattle, nukes and other invasive species- and you'll be in for a treat. It's a shame so much of that "God-forsken place" has been ruined. (I wrote this. :-) )

I posted a link to a great article by Edward Abbey on the first page of this thread- it's well worth reading- but even better is to use one's senses. Seriously, come out and visit some of the places in the west that are unharmed by cattle grazing and then explore the many areas- most of them public lands- that have been ruined by this practice. They are much more wide spread than nuclear test sites. These are fragile ecosystems but in their natural state they are anything but waste lands. Check out Anza Borrego in southern California- the wildflowers in the spring will blow your mind and the variety of wildlife there is prolific. And then go and check out some of the vast areas that have been heavily grazed. You will find little else but cow shit, and well, as Abbey put it: "Almost anywhere and everywhere you go in the American West you find hordes of these ugly, clumsy, stupid, bawling, stinking, fly-covered, shit-smeared, disease-spreading brutes. They are a pest and a plague. They pollute our springs and streams and rivers. They infest our canyons, valleys, meadows, and forests. They graze off the native bluestem and grama and bunch grasses, leaving behind jungles of prickly pear. They trample down the native forbs and shrubs and cacti. They spread the exotic cheatgrass, the Russian thistle, and the crested wheat grass. Weeds."*

The man knew what he was talking about.

No it can't write itself. It takes a lack of facts and pre-conceived conspiracy theories mixed with some paranoid delusions, spurious allegations and guns.

Agreed Brianlux.... Nevada, what a place.... on the one hand parts of it are completely ravaged (nuclear testing, bombing ranges, mining, and overgrazing in fragile desert areas), but there are also some unbelievably stunning and pristine places - Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains, dense lush aspen forests in the Schell Creeks, wild places in the Monitor and Diamond Ranges... really beautiful.

I'm going to try to add some unbiased truths to this thing:
Regarding the land use and land use permits:
"Public land which was not legally converted into private ownership remained in the public domain, and some ranchers continue to use public property to supplement their private range. Much of that public land is being managed today by the U. S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and that agency faces a challenging and often controversial task: "to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield."

The BLM manages grazing permits on public land all across the West. One of those "multiple uses" is grazing, and a dispute between a rancher named Cliven Bundy and the BLM over the use of land in southern Nevada has lasted for more than 20 years. The former grazing lease, known as the Bunkerville allotment, includes public land managed by both the BLM and National Park Service at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, with the BLM handling grazing issues for the NPS.

"Multiple Use" Can Lead to Conflicts

A mandate to manage large areas of land for such diverse uses as grazing, wildlife, recreation, mining, timber and energy development often leads to conflicts, and that's the case on the Bunkerville allotment.

Beginning in 1993, the BLM informed Mr. Bundy about limits on the number of cattle he could graze on the allotment in order to meet regulations to protect wildlife, particularly a threatened species, the desert tortoise. Mr. Bundy refused to accept the limits and stopped paying the required fees for his grazing permit ... but continued to run his cattle on the property.

The BLM subsequently cancelled the grazing permit, and in 1997, Clarke County, Nevada, purchased all the active grazing permits in the area to conserve them for wildlife needs. A tentative proposal was made to Mr. Bundy to compensate him for any stock water rights or range improvements he might have in his former allotment. He rejected the offer...and continued to run his cattle.

Failed Negotiations Lead To Court Cases

After further attempts to negotiate with Mr. Bundy failed, a series of court cases that extended up to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an injunction which permanently enjoined Mr. Bundy from grazing cattle on the Bunkerville allotment, and ordered him to remove all trespass cattle. He refused, despite notices that the livestock would be subject to impoundment and removal if they remained.

While the legal wrangling continued, the number of cattle in the area continued to grow. In 1999, the BLM was able to document 51 head of Bundy cattle on federal range in the allotment; by 2011, over 900 cattle were counted by a helicopter survey of the rugged terrain.

Mr. Bundy apparently concedes that he has never owned any of the land in question, but disputes the BLM's jurisdiction; he contends he has the right to continue to use the property, since his family has been doing so since the 1880s."...

    ref. http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/2014/03/decades-long-cattle-trespass-comes-head-lake-mead-national-recreation-area-and-blm24863

If Mr. Bundy believes he can graze his cattle on whatever land he chooses... does that mean he would be okay with me riding a dirt bike or racing a dune buggy on that same plot of land? Or would he consider me to be a trespasser?

    More facts from the case:
"For 18 years he (Bundy) has bucked the BLM's authority and continued to graze cattle in the area. He estimates he runs 500 head of adult cattle on 120 square miles in the Gold Butte area that he calls his "ranch." The area includes 160 acres of private property near Bunkerville where his father built a house in 1951. Bundy and his wife, Carol, have raised 14 children there."
