oh god.... you've got to be kidding.

lol.... people in newfoundland have such high hopes for salmonfest it is hilarious.

The festival is so poorly managed that I'm surprised anyone has anything to do with it...

Last year the fest had the Hip and the eagles - big names for such a small festival... t

They oversold the VIP area so much that people actually couldn't fit into the fenced off section...

They ran out of $5 bottled waters at 4 in the afternoon....

I could go on, but I think you get my point...

If pearl jam headlines salmonfest I am officially renouncing my membership... Salmonfest is an option for bands desperate for cash (i.e. Aerosmith), old and looking for somewhere to play they haven't been before (i.e. KISS and the eagles), or the hip (the hip get a break as they're canadian and they've got to hit every province).

Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

I don't know about easily. I lived in St. John's the first time, still in college. They sold out both nights, but there were a lot of available tickets. Almost everyone I knew had 1 or 2 spares for sale... a lot of people bought extras for their friends, only to have "extras" wind up as empty seats when their friends all got tickets to the second night...

Being a newfoundlander who now lives in civilization and not that dream-world place called newfoundland, I'm just realistic about the situation... no one shit in my cornflakes. The fact that anyone travels in to Newfoundland to play a show bewilders me when I look at the economics of it...

Playing dates in St. John's is just not a profitable venture... you do it because you want to go there, not because you want to make money... the time it costs you to truck your gear in and back out again makes the "break even" point require two shows... and that's before you start looking at the way both the locals and government looks at you with $ signs in their eyes as they carve up your travel budget... and now people tell me they're starting to implement "tourist tax" on certain things like hotels... it's insane.

Just ask Danny... he's had an AHL team there for what? 2 or 3 years now? the stadium has sold out every game they've played and they still can't keep the team there because of the costs and difficulty of travel in and out of the province... should tell you something... 7000 sold out seats a night is better attendance than pretty much every other team in the AHL and they can't keep the team...

    hey Shep...

Why is it wrong to have/want a band you love go to Salmonfest or furthermore to St.Johns?? From a fan perspective its the same as you wanting them to go to the south, no?

I suggested St.Johns due to the population over Grand Falls... but with it in central location i can see it working as people would be willing to make the drive for the big names.

Logistics is always an issue... regardless of where they go. NA/Europe etc... they are not going anywhere without making a profit.

I never meant to imply that it was "wrong" for anyone to want the band to play salmonfest... sorry if it came off that way.

Being from Newfoundland, and no longer living there, it has become very apparent to me that the entire province exists in some kind of dream-world... A lot of Newfoundlanders have this mentality that it is the single greatest place on the planet and everybody should go there all the time... in fact why would anyone ever go anywhere else? It frustrates me when I run into this.... that's all.

That being said - the population of Houston is approximately 7 million people.... there are ~500,000 people in Newfoundland and Labrador... an area nearly the size of Texas.... And St. John's has had more shows in the last 10 years....

where is that damn faceplam smiley when you need it.... :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp:

This would be the best thing ever! They are in Europe the night before Salmon festival so i dont know if it would be possible. They keep delaying the announcement of the festival, they must be having trouble with an act. Bruce was rumored to be playing but i read that he canceled his entire summer tour. Please PJ!!

I didn't realize PJ was in UK the night before so it seems unlikely then. The delays are concerning either way. Bruce is a long shot I would say. AC/DC would be amazing. I wish they would announce soon, my vacation plans and dates depend on some news.

ACDC seems to be the rumor every year, i dont think they will be touring that early. They could be fucked if bruce was supposed to play and pulled out, the delys are troublesome.
