boston is just devastated right now with our innocent victims fatalities and injuries

wrigley will be the bands next show in the US

i know, having been to a few of the 27 shows played in and around boston, that this city is a special place for this band

play it for martin richard, the 8 year-old boy who died at the boston marathon on monday

play it for krystle campbell, the 29 year-old who also died that day

play it for the BU student from china who also died that day

play it for all of the injured who will live the rest of their lives with wounds that will remind them of that horrible day

play it for all of the first responders and the regular folk who helped save many lives that horrible day

play it not for this country's political policies, but play it for the people all around the world who believe that good can be greater than evil

thank you

( i would appriciate it if some of you responding to this could add photos to this thread, i'm having trouble doing this at work, especially the one of martin richard holding the sign that says " stop hurting people, peace") thanks

    How about No More?

Either that or just play for 4 hours and give us the time where we can come together as one and be grateful to be alive and celebrate the evening with friends and great music

    Can't wait!! July is COMING!!

I have no doubt the band will have something appropriate planned.

    Possible Theo involvement too.

Thanks for the pictures and some hope

    For those who don't know

Patriots day is celebrated here in Massachusetts on the 3rd Monday in April to commemorate the battles of concord and Lexington

The Boston marathon is run on this day every year

It should be a special day for kids in massachusetts because it is the first day of a week long school vacation and they get to watch the red sox play a home game at 11 in the morning

It should be a special day for kids who get to go watch the marathon at the finish line to see their father finish the race

    This year it was not

I don't think Ed insulting 1/2 the people in the stands is the right sentiment. "Sure as fuck ain't no Republican either."

Ed states that he is not a democrat, too

Ed did not write this song

My sentiment is that I have an 8 year-old boy, I live near Boston, and my heart breaks for the Richard family and every other family affected by this

I dont think he sings it like that every time. Considering the situation I dont think he would do that. You think half the audience at a PJ show is Republican? I wonder. I always thought their audience had were more Democrats but maybe that is just because the band are so vocal.

Anyway, I think it would be a great song if they do an acoustic set.

I agree, but I think if he chose to sing this song as a tribute he would not sing that line that way.

    Wow

Innocent people get blown to pieces and some of you would be offended if someone you do not even know personally, states that he does not support YOUR political party, or any other, for that matter

The song is I Am A Patriot originally written and performed by Steven van Zandt

Pay close to attention to what Steven says before the song starts..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzguf7WBIM0

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous, someday

I was walking with my brother
And he wondered what's on my mind
I said what I believe in my soul
It ain't what I see with my eyes
And we can't turn our heads this time

I am a patriot and I love my country
'Cause my country is all I know
I want to be with my family
    With people who understand me
I got nowhere else to go

    I am a patriot
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous, someday

And I was talking with my sister, she looked so fine
I said, "Baby, what's on your mind?"
And she said, "I want to run like the lion
Released from their cages, released from their rages
    Burning in my heart tonight"

I am a patriot and I love my country
'Cause my country is all I know

    And I ain't no communist
    And I ain't no capitalist
    And I ain't no socialist
And I sure ain't no imperialist

    And I ain't no democrat
    And I ain't no republican
And I only know one party
    And its name is freedom
Listen to me, I am, I am, I am

    I am a patriot
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous

    what a selfish idea!
everyday and everywhere in the world INNOCENT people are dying because of abuse, war or what else ... everywhere outside the "glorious" US (sometimes by the hands of Americans, by the way) ... are you interested in that fact? do you realize that anyway? I'm sure you don't.

Of course, the incident of Boston is a bad thing for you and for mankind, but to me there is no sense to play that song 3 months after that while thousands of other people in the world will die because of cruelty during this period!
    37 and (hopefully) counting ...

Selfish? Really? I get your point. You should not honor any tragedies because bad things are happening all over the world every day and if you honor one then you don't care about any of the others. Good point.

I was thinking Sweet Caroline, but in all reality, the show is in July and it's April. Unfortunately, I don't think this event will be on everyone's mind in July in Chicago.

If they were playing Fenway or if the show was next week, I think things would be different.

As sad as it is, something else is bound to happen between now and July.

July is too far away and Chicago isn't Boston. It's a nice sentiment but I don't see it happening. As it looks this morning, the case is pretty much solved so I don't believe this incident will be on our collective minds in the middle of summer in Chicago.

Not knocking your idea, but it doesn't seem likely (or emotionally relevant/necessary) in Chicago in July.

It's not sad at all. Why don't they play something for the people who died in the explosion in Texas? Or the people Chistopher Dorner killed in California or any one of the other millions of things that have happened or will happen from now until then in the US and around the world that have no relevant connection to Pearl Jam or Chicago?

It's not that people aren't empathetic to what happened in Boston, it's that your request just doesn't make much sense.

It will be their first show since the attack

This band has strong ties to Boston

I am from Boston, not west, Texas

I have very much empathy for any victim of violence, no matter where on earth it happens

I suggested this because they cover a song called "I am a patriot" , and here in Boston we had a bombing that killed 3 on patriots day

It may depend on whether Boston is getting shows in the fall (and I believe we are.) If so they probably will wait until they are here.

No need to explain yourself. I didn't misunderstand you and if they play Patriot, great. I don't think it's very relevant that they do however, and that was what I was responding to. I was responding to you calling it "sad" that people aren't as behind your request as you'd like them to be.
