Lol Briankux!! I only laugh because of how right you are!! Did you know, that a horse has the ability
To sheer a pound of flesh in less than second in a bite!! So what you were
getting was nips. A true bite from a horse is irrecoverable. There's no growing
It back. Their teeth are like scissors on the front eight. ( four top same bottom).
But to experience that is a true gift.. So I'm guessing Kid was under 10? That is the age
In which horses seem to "mature". Even though, reproductively speaking
They are mature at anywhere from 2-4. Studs can reproduce at 2 and mates between3-4.

Yikes! I'm happy to keep my pound of flesh. If I do ever get a horse it will NOT be names Shakespeare!

I believe kid was three or for. That brat! :x ...

That sounds about right. Ina herd situation a normal horse learns
" ground manners"- acceptable norms in the horse world by about
Five years.. But when we domesticate them we retard this growth.
An owned horse can take up to ten years to develop proper ground
manners. Gnosis why I pasture my yearlings for the first few years.
Wanna know a cool fact? Of all animals, horses and pigs are the most
replicate of human society. They live in herds, but within each
herd are cliques. So say there's a leader inside a clique within a herd...
That clique is now at the same status of importance inside the herd. So...
There's a complete leader [alpha], then there are cliques, so if you are the
next horse down from the alpha and you adopt others into your
clique, they too share that status! Has always blown my mind!! I love
    These animals!

if she wants to do it, she will do it. I think she did well and would probably continue to do well, but not to say she wouldn't have some typical obstacles to overcome and those can be painful.

I think at 13 if she wants to do it she will decide. she may take what she learned now and be done with it, and when she tries something else and falls just as hard if not harder (figuratively speaking) she may come back to it. it's trial and error thru alot of life to decide what you want to do.

I think, for the mostpart, kids seek the approval of their parents. it's an inherent human thing. if she does it, you praise her, she spends more time with her parents, who knows but the motivation should be genuine. if you encourage the working in a barn and she wants to get into it, she will thru that and you'll know she loves the people or the horses or both.

just my 2c. nothing can hold back my love for them.

Tree... Thanks so much for the info and thoughtful response. Unfortunately not being a rider myself, much of the terminology is Greek to me. I have observed her lessons and listened to the instructor teaching much of what you mention regarding center and how to guide the horse. She def won't listen to me even if I did know what I was talking about bc this is HER thing, separate from me which is cool. I think I might have her read some of your posts. I think even reading about it would rekindle the fire... Thanks again for your help. I'm also going to call the stables. Maybe she could hang out there during spring break and help in the stables. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you.. I agree with you. I think she is definitely exercising her "I make my own decisions" muscle. At the same time I want her to know that it's ok with me if she goes back bc she does seek my approval and knows that I was scared by that fall too.

what's the updates? anyone here going to wrigley? not me, but I've entered a couple contests.

    hows the rescue application coming?

ours with the abscess is doing just a tiny bit better.

the muggy weather is coming, I need to get my heavey fella a supplement of sorts.

went thru a family tragedy a few months ago, mom compound fracture to her leg, so I've been a bit backed up and am heading to the stall to catch up. running low on hay and need to get the barn clean for the refill.

hope to have time to ride soon, he is looking good!
