I was ranking the songs on the album and Even Flow was #10 for me, first let me say I love the whole album and it is really just the difference between a 9.5 and a 10 to me, not meant as a dis on Even Flow, more speaking to the greatness of the whole album

Actually I think you'll find that Even Flow is the joint second best song on Ten...

    1. Black

    2. OnceEvenFlowAliveWhyGoJeremyOceansPorchGardenDeepRelease

    :)

Out of interest, how did you rank each track?

It's probably higher than 10, but it has been overexposed as everyones piss break song. I think the solo itself would be the 8th best song...

It may be the least favorite for you, but Even Flow is a much better song than Deep. Sure it is all opinion but I think if you collect all of the opinions Even Flow would average out to be in the top 4 along with Alive, Jeremy and Black (probably #4).

  • I'm really surprised that Even Flow could be as low as Tenth on anyone's list!I know we've all heard it live shit loads of times, but it's still one of the best from Ten! I'm also surprised how low Jeremy is on some of these lists too - Maybe it's another case of hearing it too much?

    My list would probably be something like this;

    1) Release
    2) Black
    3) Alive
    4) Jeremy
    5) Even Flow
    6) Oceans
    7) Garden
    8) Porch
    9) Why Go
    10) Once
    11) Deep

  • I have it 12th behind master/slave...
  • Is Even Flow the 10th best song on TEN?
    Maybe

But it is easily the best song they have written in the last 10 years.

Or at least 2nd best, behind Unthought Known.

I'm very surprised to see a number of people place "Once" and "Jeremy" toward the end of their lists. I wouldn't normally have the nerve to admit this- opinions can get pretty strong here on The Porch!- - but I feel the same way. The whole album of course is great but those two just don't hold up as well for me as many of the others.

Release & Oceans are in my mind the best tracks off Ten.

I find I can't even listen to Ten anymore and haven't been able to for at least the last decade (ironically). When I hear the songs in my mind I can only hear the modern live versions, not the awkward album versions.

I don't know, I hear a song like Dissident and there is so much power behind it (musically and vocally). I know Unthought Known is a different style, but I just can't put Unthought Known in the category of great Pearl Jam songs when (I think) it can't compete with the average songs from the early era.
