Just back from Missoula and looking forward to Dispatch on Saturday in Boston, Ben Harper on Sunday in Noho and Dispatch again on Thursday in D.C. Then at the end of the month I have Chad solo and State Radio back to back for the annual Halloween shows in Noho. Gonna be a good month.

Wow!! What an awesome month for you!! I've never seen State Radio...I need to get on that. The show last night was sooo awesome! They really had a nice mixture of old faves with stuff from the new record. Circles Around the Sun live is really awesome, as was Josephine and Sign of the Times. Before the encore it was Flying Circles into Elias...what a killer combo! Everyone in the venue was singing at the top of their lungs. Bats in the Belfry is always fun....I have to be honest that I don't like the way Pete sings Bullet Holes live, but otherwise it was a GREAT show!

first, dlymnfld, that is one HELLUVA month! And Mamasan, stoked to hear the 'Spatch show was fun (but how could it not be, right?). You have GOT to catch SR one of these days. I saw them a few years ago in a 300 capacity club here in Jax and it's one of my favorite shows I've ever been to.

Dispatch at the DAR was phenomenal. What a great venue. PJ there must of been great. State Radio album drops tomorrow (like album much better that Dispatch's new one). State Radio and Chad this weekend in Northampton. No PJ withdrawal with all of this Chad Stokes music around. He reminds of what PJ used to be. :D:D

That's awesome!!! 'Patch shows are always so much fun!! So the new SR is better than Circles Around the Sun? I'll have to pick it up. It took me quite a few listens to really get into Circles...it's just so much different than old Dispatch, you know? Have a great time this weekend!

I was kind of distracted earlier and didnt pay much attention to the video and the song sounded exactly like one off their last album (I think), but I can't put my finger on which one. Damn it...anyone?

The song reminds me of Knights of Bostonia but I think the song Take Cover is actually playing at the beginning when she is watching the tv. That being said, I think Big Man is the best song on the album. You can watch him play a bunch of the songs acoustic on the State Radio site which was recorded at the Moboogie Loft in Denver. Either way it's all good stuff.

So I saw State Radio back to back nights in Northampton. First night was acoustic and the second night was electric. They also had the lead singer from RX Bandits (Matt Embree) on lead guitar both nights. Was awesome hearing some (not many) of the same songs each night as they were different versions. Even though the acoustic show was more intimate as it was at a bar (Iron Horse), the second night was ridiculous. They were so heavy and they opened up with Mansin Humanity which basically has a long intro which reminds me of Release. They also let everyone on stage who had on a costume for the last encore (CIA/Zombie by the Cranberries). The entire weekend benefited their charity and included a 5k run and petition for same sex marriage. I have to say these guys are starting to rival PJ as my favorite band. So much energy and good vibes.

Wow, that is so super cool. And you know that they are passionate about these charities. I've never seen people more involved in their communities and raising money for the causes they back! AND the music is just amazing! I really need to spend more time with SR...I need to devote some of my Dispatch time to them

Well, I just finished up going to NYC and Boston State Radio charity shows. They were all different and equally memorable but on Saturday night after the HOB show my friends and I were able to go to the after show party and hang out and drink with the band. Chad was only there for about an hour as he had his baby in a baby bjorn with him (he wasn't drinking). But Chuck Fay and Mad dog hung out the entire night and I was able to speak with them for awhile. Safe to say that if you are not in an A-list band, you better have a full time job. Both do and said that playing in SR is just a "part time" job. No wonder bands like Barefoot Truth break up.

Jealous. I'd love to hear their experiences of Wakarusa the night before if they even played. From what I've been reading the weather is atrocious down there. I'm keeping up hope that they play the LIG festival or I'll have to wait and see Chad with SR when he does his annual fall charity shows. Have fun tonight.

The show was amazing! Guster put on a great show and Dispatch just killed it. Great set with classics and some Circles songs peppered throughout. Closed with Elias of course....I was a sweaty mess from all the dancing and jumping haha. We were on the floor and met lots of cool people, which is always great. Thanks to 81 for coming with an open mind...glad you enjoyed it! And yes they announces that they were upset with the last minute venue change. So they're coming back in a few weeks to play outside for free to everyone that was at the show last night! So Dispatch twice in one month!!! Happy day!

gotta tip my hat to them for the give backs related to the venue change.

first they gave back $4 because UIC was cheaper to book compared to the other venue

then they have a free tail gate (hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks). missed that, but the band was suppose to be out there doing some of the grilling.

and then to put on a second show at the original venue for free.

regardless of if you like the muisc or not, that is very cool of them.

Not surprised. They are truly in this for the music and not the money (other than raising money for various charities).

Check out State Radio (Chad Stoke's new band). They are harder and more of a traditional "rock and roll" band.

Wouldnt call State Radio "new" but I do second this suggestion if you're not already familiar with them. Us Against the Crown is a great album

Yeah SR has been around for over ten years which is crazy to think. I meant "current" band though I guess Dispatch is again also his current band. So how about his "other" band (though he does also tour with Chad Stokes and the Pintos) but whatever you want to call it check all of his music out because you won't be disappointed. :D

Between watching Dispatch: Zimbabwe and this album, I've been digging deeper with Dispatch lately. And I haven't been disappointed. My best friend just saw them at Mountain Jam today and said they killed it!

Chad Stokes is doing a living room tour in which he is playing in people's houses with just a guitar and nothing else. He is also doing a show in Northampton where you can only attend if you sign up as a fundraiser. Chad is no joke, he only plays for the people and clearly does not care about being a star.

I know your going to get more of Dispatch because I went to see Chad solo last night and he confirmed State Radio is no more.

That sucks...I saw State Radio for the first and only time at my favorite lil shit hole club here in town. Maybe 300 capacity. It goes down as one of the 5 most memorable live gigs I've ever been to.

Since I was lucky enough (or unlucky since I didn't want to hear what I heard) to talk to Chad, he made it seem like he is going to be State Radio for the undetermined future. He is doing a cruise tour with Mike Franti and Donovan Frankenreiter as SR but he made it clear he is doing it himself. Mad Dog couldn't afford the sporadic touring and needed to focus on his full time job hence the reason he left. Chuck Fay's situation is a little different so I am sure he can be a little more open to sticking around and waiting for Chad to do his solo thing. That being said, your probably right in the fact that we will get more SR in the future but it won't be the same as Mad Dog was awesome.
