this will now be forever more my ultimate favorite Pearl Jam song taking the place of Hard To Imagine. I love the version played on 11/06/00 just so beautiful and heartfelt. Parting Ways is so....

Amazing piece of music. Crazy to think it took four years for it to end up on an album.

Its played 20 times, only 19 in PJ stats (http://www.pearljam.com/song/parting-ways) but the first time (as far as I know) was in Stockholm 2000 in Ed solo pre-set, this Ed solo version is slight different than the others and my favorite version

    Stockholm pre-set;

    -95, Stockholm (MirrorBall Tour)
    -00, Stockholm
    -07, Copenhagen
    -09, Berlin
    -10, Berlin
    -11, East Troy 1+2
-12, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, EV London 2
    -13, London, Chicago
-14, Amsterdam 1+2, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo
    -16, TOTD San Francisco 1+2
    -17, EV Amsterdam 2+3
    -18, Amsterdam 1+2, London 1+(2), Barcelona, London 2
    -19, EV Brussels

  • I got to hear Eddie play it solo here in Seattle, but I didn't appreciate it at the time. I didn't really embrace it until I heard Parting Ways on Binaural and I thought to myself, what an amazing song, tucked away at the bottom of the album. I wish I appreciated it more when I heard it live.

One thing I didn't understand is why Eddie didn't have the string quartet out when he played it solo.

  • One of my favorite songs of theirs, it's too bad they don't play it more. If they ever decided to end a main set on a slower note I think it would be a great way to close a main set. Seeing it Ed solo in Toronto 2008 with Liam Finn was pretty amazing.

This song has always caught my attention.
He played it in Santa Barbara on his solo tour and it was mesmerizing.
He strummed down on the White Fender Stratocaster while singing those sorrowful lyrics... just his voice and the guitar. The performance was so powerful... it was amazing!
