Great show. Surprised at no Dylan covers, but I can't complain when we got "Dead Man" and "Love Boat Captain." "Hide Your Love Away" was pretty awesome too.

Pretty awesome energy and I really hope Ed/PJ tour MN for 3 straight weeks (as suggested by Ed mid-show :D ).

The poster looks great. The sound was incredible and Ed's voice sounds great too.

    I can't wait for PJ20.

It was amazing. "Falling Slowly" had a certain energy and anticipation as it went on...that is why we go to concerts. You can't get that from listening to a recording. I've never felt an energy in a room like that before, it resonates.

Eddie is a flat out great performer. He's so talented, but has that ability to relate to the crowd, no arrogance. If there's any arrogance, its from the dumbasses who yell out stupid shit that isn't needed. Ed's so good he takes it in stride, or tells them to "fuck off." Classic. Thought our crowd was pretty good for the most part though, very appreciative. Glen is big time, as good as all the other reviews I've read. I just hope we can get access to the bootleg.

  • Great show! First time seeing Ed solo. Arc was amazing!
  • made the trip down from Winnipeg with my wife (our 7th anniversary June 30). absolutely awesome show. too bad halfway through the guy behind me spilled his entire glass of red wine all over the new tan coloured shirt and shorts I bought just a few short hours previous.......a few droplets also landed on my poster (on the back of it, thank GOD) and on my tan coloured uke shirt. DAMMIT.

AND I forgot to buy the playing cards! if they even had any!

But Glen was unbelievable. Never had heard of him before this really, and he blew me away. I have NEVER seen, nor given, any opening act a standing O, and this guy got more than one I recall! he was incredible!

And hearing Arc for the second time live made me speechless once again.

  • it was all dark during Arc. can anyone shed some light on how he sang this on this tour? it sounded like many voices. he didn't use backing tracks of his own harmonies, did he?

I am sure someone could tell you exact details
but he has something that Records and Loops what he sings . and he keeps repeating the process .

    something like that . :D

If you watched "water on the road" you see he stands up at the end of ARC and Arc is still going .

When i seen him on 09' he ran whatever it was " Little hand held thing / Looked like a Big pager" . i see now at the 2011 shows and that DVD they must be doing it for him now .

I had a feeling it was a little device like that. A buddy of mine who's a musician plays solo live but some of his songs sound like a full band because of that. And I haven't seen WOTR yet........still waiting. :|

MN show was good.... but Eddie messed up the lyrics to several Uke songs, also messed up lyrics in "Rise", "Wishlist" and goofed up "The End" a bit. I was at the 2nd night in Chicago and Eddie's energy in Chicago was evident, comparitively it sort of felt like he was going through the motions in MN. I know Chicago is a special place for him so maybe I was expecting too much from the MN show but he seemed labored in MN, not like Chicago, completely different vibe from him between the two nights. I also thought the flow of songs in Chicago was alot better. MN show was harder to get into. In ChiTown he'd build to an epic climax then would punctuate it with another epic song. The way he built up from Just Breathe, to Unthought Known to Porch in the first set of the 2nd night in Chicago was just unbelieveable, then in the first encore the way he built on "Let My love Open the Door" to "Rockin in a free world" just left everyone in a frenzy. Comparitively in MN he got people started up a little with Unthought Known but then brought them right back down with "The End" and then left the stage. Then in the encore the crowd was so amped for Porch and was primed for one more great one to send off the 2nd encore but were not rewarded for their support. I also thought there were a hadnfull of dbags in the audience in MN that we did not experience in ChiTown (the Sean Penn critic wasn't the only annoying audience member in MN).

On the positive side so you know I am not a negative nelly, "Love Boat Captain" was amazing and regardless of why it was played it was wonderful to hear him sing "Long Road". Also, whe he and Glen sing "Falling Slowly" it just doesn't get much better than that. Also I thought Glen's set in MN was magnificent. "Hard Sun" is also a great 2nd encore song, just fantastic. Also, these shows have me completely pumped for Labor Day weekend, can't wait!

I unfortunately have to agree with this. Sometimes it's hard to manage expectations at these shows, EV obviously has the Chicago ties but after not playing MN in 5 years and having such a great start for Hansard, I was expecting a bit more. LBC was awesome, and he did way more PJ stuff than he has in the last solo tours.

Like I said in my review, maybe it was the back to back nights in different cities. But something was just a little... off.

Still, an average EV show is better than the majority of other concerts so can't complain. Excited for PJ20!

I can understand the comparisons to other shows, but none of that really matters. It was still a great show. Ed making mistakes becomes part of it. Pretty tough to expect him to be the same as in Chicago, or following up a 34 song setlist the night before in St. Louis. Judgement becomes skewed if you've seen other shows right before, cuz then you have more specific expectations. Though, I wish I could've made more than just one this time! Whether or not he was at his very best or as good as a previous show is irrelevant.

This night had a very different vibe to it than the other shows I did this spin through... Everyone seemed very happy, priviledged to have been there. Respectful.

Glen was amazing as always. Was thrilled to be able to see him one last time. I was lucky enough to talk to him a bit beforehand as well.... and apologize to him for the other night at Stanleys. My drunk ass may have scared him a bit.

Ed was amazing. Voice was strong... it seemed like he may have been ready for a break. Lots of suprises in the set and some familiar tunes that are always welcomed and well delivered. My words do not do him or Glen justice. These shows were the greatest things I have ever been fortunate enough to witness.

I did this trip solo and at the very last minute. I met a lot of wonderful people before the show, lots of familiar faces too! I wish I was better with names.... Avery, Scott, Dan, Ken, John, Dennis, the hot eddie-look-a-like bartender!!!, the guy I saw 6 different times that night and chatted with forever but still can't remember your name... Oh, and randomly running into an ex boyfriend at a show wasn't nearly as akward as expected. :?

The sign worked!!!! I got a very decent ticket!

Thanks again Ed. Thank you for playing the Midwest. You know that these shows won't be outdone!

Historical note -- this is the show that took place after EV and Glen met, and Glen sang Sleepless Nights for the record; then raced over, ran onstage, and played one unbelievable show. And all that led to what is happening now....you need to hear this.

Some very good summaries. I'll add a couple thoughts while it's still fresh.

Glen's set was amazing and the highlight was Astral Weeks, he got a very long standing ovation after it and he looked very humble from it, had a bit of trouble remembering what he was playing next actually had to ask someone backstage.

Eddie mentioned he was listening to Glen's set and remarked at how great the crowd was. He also thanked Bill Pohlad(part owner of the MN Twins) for financing Into the Wild, said it wouldn't have happened with out him.

He defiantly got of to a rocky start but he turned it into a stellar performance. Lot of great songs but the best part for me was falling slowly, there is so much energy in that song and Eddie and Glen sound phenomenal together. That song alone is worth the price of admission.

Merch table was a nightmare, only 3 girls working and a lot of stinky sweaty bodies trying to get to the front. Posters were not at a separate table. Purchased a hoddie and damn and has some major odor emitting from it.

I bought a t-shirt at the STL show and it smelled like fish. I didn't even smell it before I put it on, but as I was walking around that day I was like "What the hell is that fish smell?" I noticed it was the shirt, so needless to say I'll be washing those shirts before I wear them from now on :)

HAHA! That sounds about right...but you better keep an eye on him - those backyard sex dungeons can get hot and I'm sure his tears will have soaked the duct tape off. And when you capture Glen, you'd better watch him closely too; he's got quite a voice on him.:lol::lol:

    See you at Alpine!!!

(Is it weird to think a "backyard sex dungeon" involving Dave Grohl is hilarous???)
