Atlanta 94 and/or Orpheum 94

Now that most of us have digested the Orpheum show (hope most have the cd and download tracks ;) ), what are your thoughts as to the two shows? Do you prefer one over the other?

Atlanta is so tight; it seems the boys gave it their best shot knowingly being on national radio, and the Orpheum is a bit loose, seems like they are having some fun; perhaps it was finally a good night to unwind after all the turmoil of Kurt's death the previous week as well as seeing the President, about to go on SNL. I remember those few weeks in April 1994 very vividly after all these years . . . interesting and stressful time for our beloved band.

I have to say that I kinda like the Orpheum charm . . . perhaps its way to early to even decide which one I prefer, its not like one show is better than the other, but each has a specific tone and atmosphere.

. . . and man its great to hear Dave A's subtleties, a tiny cymbal crash here, a bass drum kick there, very good listening; Sonic Reducer rocks!

I think the Orpheum is the greatest show that they've done. Missing Go, Animal, and I've Got a Feeling, which we can only get bad quality boots of, hurts, but still, I would pick the Orpheum. The version of Deep for Atlanta is the best ever, though, and one of my favorite songs/performances to listen to. But I think the Orpheum is just such a good setlist, and Ed sounds better than I have ever heard. Blood, Alone, SOLAT, Release, Daughter are the ones that stick out to me the most, then again they all do. Fuckin Up and Dirty Frank as well. Can you imagine Ive got a feeling with soundboard quality? It sounds great enough as is right here:

No doubt its Atlanta for me. The Orpheum had a few gems, especially Hard to Imagine. But everything they played in Atlanta was just so intense and perfect. Nothing is better than that version of Garden

Atlanta. Both nights. First night 2nd row. saw Ed and some guys on the side of the stage passing the peace pipe things were different back then. The show was running 110% all night. It was my friends first show and he was hooked forever. After so many shows this is still one of my favorites. It's hard to describe the magnitude of Ed's voice in that 100 year old theatre. It was Magical. I wish there was a video from these two nights. I am hoping the film might have some video from the shows. We all still talk about it today.

    Atlanta for sure.

Orpheum has a crazy setlist and some nice early Vitalogy songs, but IMO doesn't measure up to Atlanta.

If there were ever a "perfect" Pearl Jam show it was Atlanta April 3rd, 1994.

The shows on that tour after George Mason University on 4/8/1994 were very dark, including Orpheum, so there are a totally different vibe between Atlanta and Orpheum. I'll say this, the darkness of the mood followed by the intensity of the music created some great shows at the Boston Garden and Orpheum. And for me "Immortality" and "Hard to Imagine" from Orpheum are my favorite versions of those songs i've ever heard live or in a studio.

Dave Abbruzzese just posted a video for "Hard to Imagine" from Orpheum, that song and "Immortality" from that show really connect with me.

    I was at the Orphieum.
I lived off the cassette that I taped off my boom box off the radio of the Atlanta show.

To this day, I hear and sing the songs as they were played in Atlanta.
I listened to that tape until it was worn out.

Atlanta is the best of all time.

Atlanta is one of the greatest shows and I remember listening to it on the radio but b/c I was there in the third row I always loved St Petersburg Fl 1994. Also, I got the tickets because as I was driving down the road the local radio station said they had a big concert announcement after the break. When they came back the dj said pj were coming and that tickets would go on sale within the next hour or two. I immediately went to specs music and was second in line. The good old days!

I'm half way the Orpheum show now, but cannot see it winning from Atlanta 1994. Just like most of the people here ;-)

There might be some consensus that Atlanta 1994 (at least) was one of their best shows ever.

I am still very curious about images from that show: http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/118338/1990s-concert-images#latest

That version of Indifference is hands down the best. Vedder changes the octaves ever so slightly to give it that punch.

Band is very tight during the WHOLE show.

Absolutely all of this! Atlanta '94 is my all-time favorite boot. And definitely the best version of Indifference, ever! Chills every time! If I had to pick just one live song performance to listen to for the rest of my life, it'd be that version of Indifference.
