who's_pearljam? (Bob) was guitarist in the Magic band on the Bongo Fury tour. When I met him in London in 2007 he had many wonderful tales about the great Don Van Vliet.

This is for Bob, and in memory of the greatness of the Captain:

Very sad. I saw the Captain perform at Southampton University when I was a teenager. A strange band that produced some extraordinary music. Definitely a unique performer.

Very sad news. His records are so interesting and just ooze pure creativity, and his vocal range was so unlike anything I had heard before.

A very sad day indeed. Had been listening to 'Bongo Fury' and 'Clear Spot' only a couple of days ago.One of the true originals, rest in peace Don.
