I think Yellow Ledbetter would be the one... Because it's the way to say good bye and you know the show is over...

    "... Tan suato mi'jo!!"

  • fellas......what about man of the hour?

cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow/ as the curtains come down/ i feel that this is just/ goodbye for now...

I've thought about this a lot over the past few years, been to quite a few funerals. Still not decided on full list, and think it may have to continue over to the tea afterwards.

    Given to Fly
    Sleight of Hand
    Nothing as it seems
    I am mine
Long night (I sing it a lot in the car)
Alive (because I sent it to my brother on tape in a war zone many years ago and he loved it)
Daughter (because I tried singing it to my mum & stepdad when I was in hospital whilst doped up on morphine & entonox, so they'll remember it)
Any other PJ song my husband chooses

    The rest are other stuff which I'm not sure if I'm getting the titles right as I'm useless at reading covers;

Kate Bush The man with the child in his eyes (for my husband as we listened to a lot of Kate Bush when we got together)
    Norah Jones Sunrise
    John Martyn Solid Air
    Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb
Dead can dance/Liza Gerrard (hubby can choose)
King Crimson In the court of the crimson king (reminds me of my youth)
    The Doors (hubby can choose)
    Joni Mitchell Blue
    Tom Waites Somewhere
....... heck loads & loads more of all sorts of stuff

Also want to be buried in a wicker basket with red poppies on and don't want people to wear black. Also want a group of my friends who refused to wear big bushy moustaches when we went out for our joint 40th to wear them on the day - they can hardly refuse!

Sorry to ramble, get carried away sometimes. :)
  • I'm not so sure about "Soon Forget." I don't want people to think of me that way at my funeral. "A man we'll soon forget?" How about this set:

    Release
    Given to Fly
    Unthought Known
    Man of the Hour
    Around the Bend
    Light Years
    Present Tense
    Immortality
    Thumbing my Way
    Around the Bend
    I'm Open
    Arc

Well, I am not having a "funeral" just close friends and family at our house on the coast, it has to be outside, and I wish to have my ashes scattered off the cliff at the end of our property. I don't think you can legally do this, but whatever, it's our land.

I am only sure of the order of a few songs, though. The rest I need to think about.

Oceans, I Am Mine, Life Wasted (as friends and family arrive - these songs have great meaning to me and my life)
Ballad In Urgency - Black Crowes (as I am scattered)
Ocean - John Butler (after scattering is done, to celebrate good thoughts)

    These are the others...
    Garden
    Gone
    Long Road
    Immortality
    Thumbing My Way
    I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2

Come Back (when it is done and everyone is gone)

    that's a damn good line-up!
i personally would leave out soon forget, but the others...quite fitting. off he goes and man of the hour are perfect tunes, but alas, as a female....hahahaha. i am not a morbid person, but i have often thought about this. i also would have to add in a few fitting peter gabriel tunes, such as i grieve....and i also would want some uplifting tunes as well, perhaps like given to fly. i think i'd want hail, hail too. unthought known might be a great addtion as well. idk if i will actually have a 'funeral' per se as i am not religious. i also plan on being cremated immediately, but i would think a memorial service would suit me just fine. hell, i've told my husband to take everyone to my fave restaurant, eat, drink, reminisce...

Just the one song: Ask Me No Questions by Bridget St. John.

Oh, PJ? Er, um. I dunno. It's all too life-affirming to waste on the dead. :D

I can't believe nobody has listed the one song I'd have played on a loop the whole time:

    Last Exit

And then they would roll my corpse into the hole so I hit the ground at the same as that "mmmyyyyy... last exit" note.

We do...I am not religious either...but I am spiritual and my memorial, or whatever you call it needs to be a celebration of my friends and my immediate family, it also need to be earthy and natural...I want to finally be one with nature. :D

I want to add Porch to the list too.

when my mom died 2 years ago, i chose Long Road to be played. not just because it is a great song and perfect for the occasion, but my mom was a huge Neil Young fan. this became a bonding point over the last several years. she never got to see him live, but i called her from bridge school once so she could listen.

  • Long Road
    Man of the Hour
    Danny boy (Clapton's acoustic version)
    Uncloudy Day (Willie nelson)
Had me a real good time (The Faces)
    Yellow Ledbetter
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
