Went to my local target and was told cd not out till tuesday, but luckily guy working was nice enough to go to back and get me a copy!! I feel with all the tv advertising the employees would have a better idea of what they are selling, but thanks to the guy I have gotten to hear an awesome new PJ cd! Anyone else have same issues at their targets? See you in PHILLY!!!

I was in Target Sunday Morning in Canton, Georgia at 9am. Nothing on display except the ad was running in the music dept on the tv. So I go to find someone who works in dept. He doesnt know what the hell I am talking about. He asked someone on the walkie talkie. They stated new releases are Tuesday. I now look like a total lunatic. I said. This is a target exclusive!!! Released TODAY! How do you not know about it? I said can you please go in the back and get me one. And the target limited TV shirt too! He goes in back and gets me a cd and says I am not supposed to sell you this till Tuesday.
I said please walk with me. I take him over to the TV and wow imagine that SUNDAY! Fucking morons.
So I basically told the store manager and they put up the cd's because of me.
But would not even bother help me with the t shirt.
    TARGET SUCK MY ASS!
If I were PJ's management I would be pissed.

Pearl Jam should have signed with Best Buy. I know Best Buy made the mistake of not agreeing to allow independent music places to sell the record, but Best Buy has always been good to Pearl Jam. I worked there for years and they always made a big deal out of new releases up to Avocado. They also kept as many 2000 bootlegs stocked as they could, and always promoted the band subtly like putting Live at the Garden clips on the tv display DVD, and using Pearl Jam randomly in adds.

Someone at the Best Buy corporate office really loves the band. I was there once. Its run by a bunch of hippies just out of college. Lots of marijuana joke references in the Saturday morning meeting videos. lol.

At Target here near SF. The display for Backspacer was pathetic. The album was on the bottom shelf and I almost couldn't find it. I took a pic of it to post here but don't have that now. I just thought that if they are going to work with this Giant corporate store that they should be getting mucho displayo. Doesn't seem like that's the case. I think the target thing was dumb. Wish they hadn't done it. Is it even going to yield them any skrilla? Now that I think about it... I haven't even seen the commercial anywhere except for when I look for it on you tube or on here. I've heard of it on Conan but where else.

They should have got an exclusive deal with ESPN. Heard The Fixer there maybe 100 times.

Can you buy the record on MLB.com or ESPN.com? If not you should be able to. Now that would have been a cool partnership.

Agreed. IMO they (Best Buy) really tried there best with the GNR album awhile back, people just aren't into the band anymore. Not to mention Axl and the band did NOTHING to help promote it themselves.

I think Best Buy would have totally been a better operation to go "exclusive" with rather then Target. However, like you mentioned, they balked on the independent distribution so you have to give PJ credit for going with a retailer that was willing to share a piece of the pie.

Some of you need to realize that Target employees are not product specialists. Don't blame the employees, blame the management for not informing their employees. The employees aren't "fucking morons" for not knowing something they weren't informed of in the first place.

Having worked in retail once for years, I can say, customers are idiots for thinking you are in idiot for not keeping track of the million things the store sells and changes every week.

Management should have realized it was an exclusive deal and prioritized it.

    Come on now!

The scanners tell these people what they need to know. a fucking ape could use them.
the retarded chick I delt with just roamed around the music department like rain man instead of asking someout that knew what the fuck was going on.

and the management was no better. the manager I delt with insisted that it wasn;t out till tuesday.

    This was a big misstep.

    Not always.

By management, I did not mean store management, I meant corporate management.

I would guess MOST Target employees think music is released on Tuesday, because that is how it has always been. When you are not told to release something earlier, then your answer will ALWAYS be "It comes out Tuesday". It's a stock answer because 99.9% of the time it is true. The fact that they didn't know this was a 0.01% case- That's on management, not the employee.
