Amongst the Waves and Unthought Known (negative)

Anyone else think that these are two of the worst songs pearl jams come out with? Neither sounds at all like the band, and not in an experimental kind of way. Just sounds kind of bland really. I do like the lyrics though.

    HAHAHAHA!!! It's a joke, right???

"Just sounds kind of bland really"??? Wow, I've seen everything today... I think that those songs are some of the most solid songs that PJ have done in a while. I get chills every time I hear them!

I guess it's your opinion but I seriously think that you should get some headset, sit down and listen to them again... 'cause I totally disagree with you!

I actually though Unthought Known had the closest ties to the band's back catalogue

Unthought Known has a Yield-ish vibe to it, and Amongst the Waves is just cool.

How any fan can dislike Amongst the Waves I can't understand. Classic Pearl Jam. Must be a Sweet Lew kinda guy or something :D
    Get over here!

They are really good songs. I don't think the band's goal is for everything to sound the same...

Don't agree with the whole "bland" thing, but my girlfriend did think the 2 songs were 1 long song. She said they sounded to similar. Anyone else?????

to the comment about yield, i would say these two would fit the absolute least on that album. those songs sounded so natural, there was a folksy, authentic kind of vibe to all of it that i just dont hear at all on these songs.

i mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and i can try to respect that. but stu42 man, these are easily 2 of the best songs the band has ever recorded.

wish i could join in with supporting or bashing Stu42 but apparently I live in a PJ free zone called BC! Anyone else out there in Vancouver who has heard the album yet????

I'm sure you are wrong stu42 but I will respect your right to be wrong mate!

Dude, put down the bong! Amongst the Waves might be the BEST song on the new album.
There's alot to be said for Nowhere

ATW is a song i might have liked a few years ago, but it just sounds like In Hiding's slightly generic little brother. that said, its certainly popular with the PJ crowd and it really just boils down to personal preference.

Unthought Known has grown on me a lot though. its pretty awesome once the bass kicks in. i kinda find the first bit extremeyl cringe inducing though.

    there is worse...
