New CD Day

I don't think there is much better than 'new CD day'. Downloading music can not replace the ritual of buying the actual CD (or LP).

Step 1 - Go to your locally owned record store.
Step 2 - Purchase the CD.
Step 3 - Open the CD and play it in your car on the way home. I prefer to skim the album and go quickly through all of the songs to get the general feel.
Step 4 - Playing the CD on your home system with the volume turned WAY up so you can hear EVERYTHING!
Step 5 - Rip open the case and booklets and find all of the cool shit that they put in there this time.
Step 6 - Absorbe!
Step 7 - Repeat steps 4-6 over and over again.

Happy New CD Day!!!!

That sounds like a great process, although I can't always force myself to listen to it the whole way through once before skimming. I like the entire experience right upfront. Even if it is just playing on my car's stereo.

To me its all about the music, not the ritual.. the ritual is for obsessives. It does nothing for the art coming into my ears.. as long as the download is good quality, I couldn't careless.

I think you mean "couldn't care less"... unless you actually could care less, in which case your post makes no sense.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.

I fall somewhere in the middle. Obviously the music is the most important part, but the ritual is very important to me. How I listen to an album for the first time can really determine how I'm going to feel about it for a long time. I know that's not how it should be, but it just is. For instance, feeling rushed when I listen to an album is never a good thing. Also, listening to it with other people is usually a bad thing for my mojo, especially if its a PJ album. For whatever reason I find myself thinking about how much I hope they like what they hear rather than simply absorbing the music for me. Of course just when I say that, I'm going to forced to break that rule today when I have to hear Backspacer for the first time while driving up to Philly with my roommate.
