Backspacer blackout

Obviously we've heard Got Some (live from Conan show) and will hear the studio version of The Fixer. From 7/20 (when The Fixer comes out) until 9/20 (when the whole album comes out) who's going to try to hold out from hearing anything else? Obviously live versions of The Fixer, The End, Unthought Known, and Speed Of Sound have already leaked, but I don't count that for some reason (I could barely understand the singing in those recordings. Let the Blackout begin!!!

Yeah I agree. Opening the new album and listening to it for the first time is no fun if you've already heard most or all of the songs.

I used to think that way... But I just don't anymore. When they're ready they're ready!

Bring on some new ones in the Euro tour - I can't wait! :D

Edit: at least "got Some", a band "speed of sound" and for some reason I'd like to hear "see my friend"

    That's enough... :)

I will be holding out for sure. Anything official that comes out, like them playing a song on TV, or releasing a song to radio, I will listen to, but other words I am waiting for the album. I haven't even tried to find any of the songs Ed played live, because I would just rather wait. I am sure it will be worth it.
words seem so out of place.

When Vitalogy came out in December 1994, I had spent that whole year hearing song after song that was on the album. I heard Whipping (first titled "Don't Need" on an import cd), Satan's Bed (first titled "Already In Love") and Better Man on another live cd, Spin The Black Circle w/ b-side Tremor Christ about a month before Vitalogy came out, and then of course "Not For You" from SNL in April 1994. That was 6 of the 14 tracks already. And at 12am on 11/18/94 KROQ in Los Angeles played the entire album, only taking a break after Whipping, and then continuing the second half of the album with Pry, To. When 12/6/94, I didn't feel that excitement of hearing all the new songs at the same time.

I have never listened to any bad quality leaked stuff, and will not do it this time either.

Same here plus The End in Atlanta but that hardly counts...

This actually will be pretty easy, compared to the months between the release of The Deathly Hallows and when I actually read it, wherein I found out only that "Dobby is back," to which I responded, "A-duh."

I will download The Fixer and obviously saw Conan, but I won't listen to it leaked either. I must hold out and be tough. I waited for another album I just bought and I want to listen to Backspacer straight through without ever having heard any of the other songs. I almost wish I could keep myself from hearing Fixer, but I know I won't be able to.

I pre-ordered the vinyl version of the album as well and honestly may listen to the vinyl version first, before I even crack the CD open, depends on which arrives first and how impatient I will be when I have the full album in hand. Oh plus I don't have a vinyl player!:mrgreen: Minor detail.

Either way I can't wait as this will be PJ's first album that has come out since I have become a fan.

I've done blackouts before, & it's been great to hear the album completely fresh. But I'll probably hear a few new ones in Manchester & London, so not much point...

Someone mentioned Vitalogy & I think I'd heard live versions of 6 songs (Last Exit, Not for You, Whipping, Corduroy, Satan's Bed & Better Man) before it came out - plus the single of StBC/Tremor Christ - and it was still really exciting to hear the album for the first time.

Hopefully the only leaked material I hear between now and 9/20 is the stuff they decide to play in Chicago.

Sorry, I sometimes can't help bringing Harry Potter books into EVERY conversation. My point is that if you think avoiding new singles on the radio is hard, you should try quitting television, magazines and newspapers and most human interaction after a new Harry Potter book comes out in order to avoid plot give-aways. But if you hear the new PJ songs at live shows, all the power to you for being there!

Wow, I give you all a lot of credit for holding out, for that is something I definitely CANNOT do. I can assure you that I will listen to the album when it leaks; however, I have already pre-ordered Backspacer and I fully intend to buy The Fixer/Got Some this coming Monday. Patience is definitely not one of my virtues when it comes to new, highly anticipated music.
