Geek level thing?? I made the connection right away when I first heard Rats. But probably only because I am OLD , not a geek. Well....................i'm that too but not due to PJ!!! ;)

I thought it was about the movie:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_(film)
Did not realize that MJ wrote a song about it.

Nice first post topic, welcome to the board!! :D

oh it's utter crap, so no worries....you don't want it. :P

that said, no, no, no....thanks for the reminder. our dear sweet barbara asked me *immediately* when the shows were first announced but alas VERY bad timing in regards to work - how dare pj not consult my schedule first! ;) - and sure, 2 eurotours, other shows....and errrr....life? i just really need to to do better $$$-wise. i'm tryin' to be good, but it is oh so difficult. i am a dreamer afterall...... but you ARE correct...i sooooo want to! so sure, have a drink, or two, in honor, i'll miss you all......

*edit - i just looked up the flick willard on netflix and got this....

In this remake of the 1971 horror film by the same name, Crispin Glover plays a shy young man named Willard who's constantly pestered by his co-workers and has no friends save for his pet rats. When one of the rats is killed at work, Willard exacts bloody revenge on all those who did him wrong -- with the help of his furry friend Ben, an unusually intelligent (and lethal) rat who leads his cohorts to commit horrific murders

i DID see this, the remake, and thought it was crap. i did not see the 1971 original as i was 3 when it came out. and even later, i am sure my mother would not have let me see a horror flick as a child, especially me and my active imagination who got scared easily :? ...and as i got older, i developed a loathing of horror films in any case. so yea, missed all that and the ben song.

"Ben...the two of us need look no more..."

When I first heard Rats (1993), I always thought it was,

"Then the two of us need love no more..."

I think very definitely no (unless you meant just on the handful of upcoming dates this summer, then...maybe).

My band does a punked up cover of "Ben". Of course not everyone knows that we always have - since our very first gig - so when we played it last night it was weird...like people seeing us for the first time would probably think it was a tribute. Then I thought well actually, let them! They were all singing along and dancing. It was nice.
Try to tell me that you love me, throw your little punches at me...

Well I'm one of the old guys that caught the reference the first time I heard Rats.

Ben I believe was Michael Jackson's first #1 as a solo artist and is about a homicidal(?) rat.
