All That's Sacred: Podcast #5 now up!

In celebration of me hopping a flight for Atlanta soon to catch the 2 Eddie gigs there next week, Episode #5 is heavy on the Eddie. I sprinkled in a side project tune and ended with a Six Degrees of Pearl Jam number just to keep it interesting but otherwise it’s all solo Ed akin to what I’m likely to hear next week. D, the title link for each post is the mp3 file. So, for example, if you right-click on "all that's sacred #5", you can "Save link as.." and download the mp3. Or it might be easier to just download from this site: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/allthatssacred1?format=xml

Warning, they are large files but it's necessary. The bit rate needs to be at least 192K for decent audio quality - especially for my vocals. That's one reason why #1and 2 sounded so-so (hadn't learned that yet plus I upgraded my mic).

is this just for fun..practice..chance of profit?
can you sell like space for ad banners or something if you became hugely popular?

Thanks! The podcast grew out of my desire to have something to do and a creative outlet after getting laid off some time ago. I had been in residential building materials sales for the last 8-9 years before the housing bubble burst and I found myself unemployed. While I obviously have no broadcast background, I've always been a big fan of the mediums of podcasting and radio. I started tinkering with some audio engineering software creating stupid little audio drops for a favorite Seattle talk radio show just trying to hear myself on air. About the same time, Adam Carolla had lost his show on terrestrial radio and was experimenting with a podcast. I remember listening to his very first one: his site page was so rudimentary and the podcast itself was so lo-fi -- just him, a buddy, a mic, and a computer. I thought, "Well, hell, I can do that!" So I brainstormed on what to do a podcast on and figured why not do a podcast for the Pearl Jam fan? And it just kind of grew from there...

It's been an awesome experience so far. Still a total amateur, I'm learning a lot about audio engineering, show prep, and site design. Could have never imagined such a positive reaction from other fans. It's been such a kick in the pants to watch the traffic and hear from fans from all over the world! So at this point, I guess I'm doing it for my own amusement and for the enjoyment of other Pearl Jam fans. I technically could put banners on the site right now, but I'm reluctant to because I don't know how that would be viewed by the PJ powers that be -- me making money off the band. I don't even know if the profit would amount to much (although, I'd take whatever I could get given my current job status). So for now, I'm just happy to be doing it and have people listen. I'd love to get paid for doing this kind of thing but unless Ten Club comes a knocking, I have a feeling this podcast will just be for fun.

Maybe the experience though will open some doors someplace else. I'm not holding my breath but I guess you never know. I've already gotten more out of the experience then I ever anticipated and I've only done 5 little episodes. Sorry to be so long winded; I could talk about this for hours. It's just been an awesome thing at a real low point for me and that's due in large part to everyone taking the time to listen and reacting so positively. So thanks for listening!
