Kind of sad not seeing Boom last night; hope he is still in the mix and we will get to see him on tour.

I'm sure Boom will be on tour with them...who else will play the keys during LBC or Nothingman?

im sure he will still be on tour. he shouldn't be playing on songs that he isn't needed on -- i.e. that one last night.

Boom seems like a cool guy, but he is not in Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam bringing in Boom reminds me of Itchy and Scratchy bringing in Poochie. I think Brendan kind of had a heart to heart with Ed and said WTF, are you a rock band or a ensemble of musicians playing Hawaiian jazz festivals.

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw Pearl Jam at MSG in '08 and they had back up singers!... They looked like they should be backing up Phil Collins, not Pearl Jam. Instead of Doug from King's X backing up Eddie on WMA we had three back up singers straight out of a Rick Astley video singing and dancing along.

Get rid of the back up singers, get rid of Boom (whom I'm sure is a nice fellow) and play music as a band. Remember it's Five against One, not Nine against One. If they want to add some organ to a song on tour I'm there's a roadie or a tech that could cover.

He's an outside contractor that has been contracted to play on some songs, tour etc. He's not signed to anything like Ed, Matt, Stone, Jeff and Mike. If you check Riot Act and Self titled there's no mention of Boom, it clearly states on the first page of the Riot Act insert that Pearl Jam is "Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Eddie Vedder, Matt Cameron".

On one song (Love Boat Captain) Boom is credited for music, but that's just one song. Boom is not credited for any songs on Self titled, and is not mentioned as a member. Boom is listed in the back of Self titled along with other people as "Additional Musicians".

Boom Gasper is no more a member of Pearl Jam than Jimmy Shoaf, Jimmy (Dave Abbruzzese's drum tech) is on the drums for "Satan's Bed" on Vitalogy because Dave was getting his tonsils out the day they recorded that song in the studio.

Jimmy's share of the Vitalogy royalties is probably many times more than anything Boom gets for "Love boat Captain".

Actually, he's been Pearl Jam's keyboard player for 7 years. Still doesn't make him a full fledged band member.

Man, I didn't even notice that. As much as I'd really rather not see him on the road with PJ again, I wouldn't read too much into it. He wasn't at the Astoria show yet played on the proper tours that year. If we're lucky, we'll get a handful of Boomless gigs this summer. Five's company, six's a crowd (unless the 6th is Brendan O'Brien on keys).

    Hell yeah!

I was wondering when you guys would notice no boom!

I was hoping boom wouldn't be there and was pleased to see just the five guys rocking, not that I got anything against him, I thought riot act was a great period and boom fits in nicely with that era, but there is a time and a place. I think he should come on tour and play the songs where keys are needed but leave it at that.
I often feel they started to make parts for him just so he had something to do.
Hopefully Brendan has had his awesome way with this record - the man is a legend and his guidance can only ever be a good thing!

I was watching Immagine in Cornice the other night and just wished he'd stop playing on the rocky songs that we all know and love without keys.

Does it really matter how you say it? He's been playing with the band for 7 years which pretty much means he's been in the band for that long, even if people don't want to believe it.

I'd say Boom is like vegetables, when you're a kid. You prefer not to eat them and try to sneak out of it but you know you gotta eat them from time to time and it's never as bad as you think.

They had three local kids singing backup for them during a few songs at that show. It sounded awesome. It was a cool moment. They did not look like they were out of a Rick Astley video.

Pick up the boot. You'll realize it was an improvement.
